12 year-old's problems worsened by accident
A boy with a history of behaviour problems ran onto a busy road and was hit by a car. He suffered a severe brain injury, as well as a broken leg. Despite providing a positive and nurturing environment, his parents found his impulsive, socially inappropriate and aggressive behaviour increasingly difficult to deal with.
What we did:
- Recruited an experienced support worker, who worked directly with the boy, as well as providing respite for the parents, while we secured suitable residential education.
- Liaised with school staff, to optimise the value of educational and recreational programmes.
- Carried out risk assessments at home and school.
- Assessed and recommended essential personal independence equipment.
- Recruited a physiotherapist.
The result:
- Now 17, our client attends a safe and caring residential school.
- His behaviour is more acceptable.
- He enjoys academic and leisure pursuits – especially caring for animals.
- He is renowned for his humour and has made several friends.
