12 year-old's problems worsened by accident

A boy with a history of behaviour problems ran onto a busy road and was hit by a car. He suffered a severe brain injury, as well as a broken leg. Despite providing a positive and nurturing environment, his parents found his impulsive, socially inappropriate and aggressive behaviour increasingly difficult to deal with.

What we did:

  • Recruited an experienced support worker, who worked directly with the boy, as well as providing respite for the parents, while we secured suitable residential education.
  • Liaised with school staff, to optimise the value of educational and recreational programmes.
  • Carried out risk assessments at home and school.
  • Assessed and recommended essential personal independence equipment.
  • Recruited a physiotherapist.

The result:

  • Now 17, our client attends a safe and caring residential school.
  • His behaviour is more acceptable.
  • He enjoys academic and leisure pursuits – especially caring for animals.
  • He is renowned for his humour and has made several friends.
