Sally Van Wedge - BA (Hons) Speech and Language Therapist (SLT)

Sally has over 15 years’ experience working as a Neurology Specialist SLT. She qualified in 2001 and has worked within multi-disciplinary teams as well as managing her own generalist caseloads independently in the community setting.

Experience

  • Supporting individuals through their rehabilitation journey, applying her broad range of clinical skills with compassion and expertise.
  • Working as Clinical SLT Lead on a stroke unit.
  • Specialised skills in the assessment, differential diagnosis, treatment and management of communication and swallowing difficulties.
  • Providing training for staff, carers and family members.
  • Supporting staff in understanding and implementing care plans and therapy programmes.
  • Employing a broad range of experience and clinical skills including working with clients with complex needs.

Sally has highly developed communication skills, including excellent interpersonal skills, supporting good interprofessional working. She can communicate effectively with staff, patients, carers and relatives – remaining both professional and compassionate.

It is very important to her that all her clients are engaged in a rehabilitation pathway that keenly reflects their own needs and values.

2001 – Present: Speech and Language Therapist with Wiltshire Health and Care.

  • Clinical SLT Lead on Stoke Rehab Unit – working with clients with complex and specialised needs.
  • Involvement in mental capacity assessments.
  • Working closely with colleagues as part of a MDT to provide communication and dysphagia assessment, diagnosis and therapy.
  • Managing the design and delivery of community Communication Groups across a range of adult client groups.
  • Line management of colleagues.

Sally is committed to maintaining her high standards of clinical practice by taking part in regular courses and keeping up to date with relevant clinical professional development activities.
