Overview

Elaine qualified as a social worker (CQSW) from South Glamorgan Institute of Higher Education/ Gwent College of Higher Education in December 1989. Having studied part time while working full time she attained a BA (Honours) degree in Humanities with Philosophy from the Open University in 2007. She is an extremely conscientious and highly motivated worker having a wide range of social work experience in working with adults with acquired spinal and brain injuries, and neurological conditions, such as motor neurone disease, multiple sclerosis, Huntington’s disease and Parkinson’s disease.

Cardiff County Council Social Services employed as a Social Worker, where for the first five years Elaine was based in two local GP surgeries, working as a member of the primary care team. Having transferred to the community Social Work team she was later promoted to Senior Practitioner. In this role Elaine, while practicing social work at a more senior level also carried out a variety of management functions including supervision and guidance of social work staff.

Areas of Work

Elaine has considerable experience of assessing the needs of adults with a range of disabilities including acquired brain and spinal injuries, strokes, a variety of neurological conditions and life limiting illnesses including cancers and respiratory diseases. She is also skilled at working with people with mental health difficulties; and has worked in a multi disciplinary setting throughout her career.
