Independent Living Solutions Ltd (ILS) as a Case Manager. Jean is also a Professional Mentor for 4 ILS Case Managers.
1997
Jean joined the Motor Neurone Disease Association as Regional Care Advisor covering Hampshire, Dorset, Isle of Wight and the Channel Islands.
1994
Hampshire County Council working in a specialist post as District HIV/AIDS Social Worker.
1992
Jean then transferred to the Mental Health Team in the psychiatric hospital in Salisbury having completed her Approved Social Work training in 1991.
1988
Jean’s first post was as a locum Social Worker at Southampton General Hospital. She then moved to Salisbury District Hospital working in all areas of the hospital (for example medical, IDU, rehabilitation, neurological) working with adult patients.
Professional
- Jean is registered as a qualified Social Worker with the General Social Care Council. She completed her social work training and was awarded the Certificate of Qualification in Social Work in September 1988. This was combined with the Diploma in Applied Social Studies awarded in June 1990
- Her first degree was a BA [Hons] in Politics and Sociology awarded in 1977 and she subsequently gained a MSc in Professional Studies (Psychosocial Palliative Care) from Southampton University in May 1999
- Jean is a member of BABICM (British Association of Brain Injury Case Managers) and CMSUK (Case Management Society for United Kingdom).
Areas of Work
Jean has worked mainly with adults with a physical disability, frequently life limiting and with people who have chronic mental health problems. She has also carried out the duties of an ASW under the Mental Health Act 1983.
As well as direct work with clients she has been a Social Services representative to HIV advisory groups, developing and facilitating services for people affected by HIV. Key to her role as MND Regional Care Adviser was the ability to influence statutory services in order to facilitate improvement in the standard of care of people living with MND. She is very experienced in working as part of a multi-disciplinary/multi-agency team and is confident in taking a lead role.
Over the past sixteen years training, for fellow professionals and for community based groups, has been a significant feature in her working life. She also has experience of mentoring and of staff and volunteer supervision.
She has worked with both children and adults with disabilities but in future will be focusing on working with adults.
