Overview

Sophie has broad experience, working as a nurse in a wide variety of settings and specialties. She developed an early special interest and skills in tissue viability, pressure area care and elderly rehabilitation. She has considerable expertise in establishing, working with, leading and training multidisciplinary teams and joined Independent Living Solutions Limited (ILS) in August 2007. She utilises her experience to provide Case Management for both adults and children.

Sophie qualified in 1994 from the University of Central England, Birmingham with a degree in Adult Nursing. She subsequently attained a Masters Degree in 2000 from Kings College, London.

Employment

2008 – Present

Practice Nurse delivering clinical nursing skills including tissue viability and nurse in charge. Sophie carries out this role alongside her case management role.

2007 – Present

Case Manager with ILS working with adults and children, providing support, advice and co-ordination on cases involving brain injury and cerebral palsy. She has particular experience managing care teams including recruitment and supervision of large nursing and care teams.

2005 - September 2007

Childminder- Changed jobs due to family commitment.

2002 - 2005

Co-ordinator Physical Disability Support Service –This post involved the creation of a new service to support people with physical disability in the community, aged 18+. Client groups included adults with Multiple Sclerosis, Parkinson’s Disease, Motor Neurone Disease and Spinal Injuries. Primary role to initiate and manage the care assessment process.

2002

Tissue Viability Nurse and Leg Ulcer Clinic Manager – On returning from maternity leave Sophie worked alongside the TVNC providing specialist advice in wound care and pressure area care.

1998 - 2001

Professional Development Nurse – During this period Sophie gained new skills in training, audit, developing policies and guidelines and risk assessment. She also completed a research project into the causes of falls/ accidents, as part of her master’s course. Sophie also had a secondary role in assisting the Tissue Viability Nurse Consultant (TVNC).

1997 - 1998

Primary Nurse Day Hospital (rehabilitation) working as part of a multidisciplinary team to promote independence and quality of life.

1995 - 1997

Community Nursing - providing home-based nursing care for adults and children with a variety of conditions including strokes, dementia, cancer, HIV and AIDS. Care given included assistance with medication and pain relief, catheter care, pressure area and wound care. After six months Sophie moved into a Primary Nurse Post, in which she was responsible for deputising for the District Nurse and managing the team of Community Nurses.

Staff Nurse, Elderly Rehabilitation developing her post-graduate assessment and clinical skills base.
