Overview

Nargis qualified in 1971 from The University of Bombay with a Bsc.(Hons) in Occupational Therapy and a post graduate diploma in Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation.

Since then she has worked extensively in the UK, both as an Occupational Therapist and as a Care Manager, within the NHS, Social Services and the private sector with adults and children. Nargis has worked in varied settings, sectors and specialism and disabilities including Cerebral Palsy, Autism, Brain Injury and Spinal Cord Injury.

Nargis also has considerable experience in working with and in leading and training multidisciplinary teams since 1971. She is fluent in three Asian languages (Hindi, Urdu and Gujarati) She has tremendous amount of cultural and religious knowledge of all the south Asian community.

Nargis joined Independent Living Solutions Limited (ILS) as a Case Manager/ Occupational Therapist in 2007.

Employment

2006 to present:

Self Employed Occupational Therapist working as a Case Manager/Occupational Therapist in varied settings, with special interest in brain injury case management.        

2001-2006:

Team Manager (Adult Care Services) Hertfordshire County Council. Duties include staff supervision, training and budgetary management. During this period Nargis also worked part time as an Independent Occupational Therapist with both adults and children. 

1994-2001:

Care Manager/ Occupational Therapist/Assistant Manager Hertfordshire County Council. Duties included assessment and management of and advocacy for the needs of disabled children, adults and their carers; provision of adaptations, equipment for home and work settings and home care services.

1991-1994:

Senior Occupational Therapist –Wheelchair Service. Duties included wheelchair assessment for adults and children; teaching posture and pressure care management; training other therapists in wheelchair prescription.

1981-1991:

Disabled Living Adviser and Consultant Occupational Therapist for the London Borough of Harrow.

1974-1981:

Community Occupational Therapist for Brent Social Services.

1971-1972:

Basic Grade Occupational Therapist within a hospital setting.
