Overview

Emily qualified in 2000 from Oxford Brookes University with a degree in Occupational Therapy.  After obtaining experience in a variety of settings, she chose to specialise in the area of neuro-rehabilitation.  Emily has worked with adults with acquired brain injury (ABI) and their families, in both private and charitable organisations since 2002 and has extensive experience in setting up services, recruiting and managing staff.  She joined Independent Living Solutions (ILS) in 2009 to provide case management and Occupational Therapy with a specialist knowledge for clients with complex difficulties following ABI.

2007 – 2009

Brain Injury Rehabilitation Trust (BIRT), West Sussex, senior therapist in charity run residential rehabilitation unit for adults with ABI.  Established a successful vocational rehabilitation service.  Treatment of Ministry of Defence Personnel.

2007

Queen Elizabeth Foundation, National Specialist College, Surrey, senior therapist working with young adults with ABI at the residential college.

2004 – 2007

Unsted Park Neuro-Rehabilitation Centre, Surrey, working up from Senior I to Lead Occupational Therapist, managing an Occupational Therapy department.  Set up a 5 bed Transitional Living Unit for adults with ABI, Priory Team of the Year finalist in 2006.

2002 – 2003

Royal Hospital for Neuro-Disability, Putney, treating clients with ABI in long-stay and rehabilitation units.  Augmentive & assistive communication devices and environmental control systems.  Trained and gained experience in assessment of levels of consciousness (Sensory Modality and Rehabilitation Technique).  Specialist seating (including foam carve and matrix) and splinting clinics.

2000 – 2003 Experience in elderly care, mental health day treatment, orthopaedics and Social Services.
