Brain injury has a devastating effect not only on the client but also on their family. Clinical Neuropsychologists have specialist expertise in the direct and indirect impact of traumatic brain injury. Our Clinical Neuropsychologists work with adult clients and their families to address the following:

Understanding brain injury by providing education to the client and the family as to what happens when the brain is injured in order to enable them to understand why they are experiencing some of their difficulties.

Emotional issues occurring as a result of the injury or illness; such as coping with the trauma of the accident, PTSD, problems with adjusting to their disability and resulting lifestyle, loss, relationship difficulties, and personality change as a direct result of the insult to the brain.

Behavioural issues such as disinhibition, anger, motivation, pain management, sleep disturbance

Cognitive issues such as concentration, memory, organisation, initiation, impulsivity, etc

Facilitating the client and his/her family in understanding the impact of sensory-motor, perceptual and communication deficits on emotion and behaviour

  • Strategies to manage cognitive and behavioural problems
  • Work with the family or individual family members
  • Close working with the Case Manager, Occupational Therapist and other treating therapists
  • Training, education and support of care teams and support workers
  • Work with the staff of residential and nursing homes to ensure the problems following brain injury are recognised and managed appropriately
  • Providing return to work programmes in conjunction with the Occupational Therapist
