Occupational Therapy

Occupational Therapists take care of the things that really matter.

The aim is always the same: to restore the client, whenever possible, to the lifestyle that they would have enjoyed, had they not suffered a trauma. When that is not possible we aim to help them readjust and maximise their residual abilities.

To achieve that, our work includes:

  • Assessing the current level of function and occupational performance. Lifestyle planning.
  • Planning and implementing packages of therapy and care to maximise our clients’ abilities and opportunities.
  • Understanding the importance of correct positioning, to maximise function and increase access to ordinary daily experiences.
  • Adapting and modifying the environment to increase independence.
  • Working with architects and builders to ensure that our client’s particular individual housing needs are met.
  • Teaching independent living skills including personal care, domestic and financial management.
  • Working with our clients to develop compensatory strategies for organisational and planning problems.
  • Assessing and identifying specialist equipment needs, arranging for adaptation and customisation as required.
  • Giving advice regarding vehicle adaptations.
  • Advising on specialist seating and wheelchair seating whether for home, work or recreation.
  • Understanding the component parts of an individual’s needs.
  • Understanding the unique needs of every individual.

And we are cost-effective. Our range of skills can actually reduce the number of professionals required for each client.

Testimonials

“My experience so far of using ILS has been fantastic, and has made a great improvement in my rehab. They have been very pro-active in setting up appointments and making sure all the therapists are communicating with each other, which makes sure the therapy has the right focus.”
