Emily’s race for independence
It’s quite something when the criteria for success is that a client doesn’t need us anymore. So when Emily Bradfield and her former case manager Catherine Sherrington were among over half a million people who put themselves forward to run the London Marathon this year, we couldn’t have been happier!
Many of you may have come across our former client Emily, whose rehabilitation following a serious hit and run injury has been nothing short of breath-taking. From lying unconscious with life threatening injuries to learning to walk again, returning to work and living independently, Emily’s let nothing stand in her way. (You can hear Emily talking about her recovery here.)
From the moment Catherine was assigned as her case manager, they set to work together to determine the goals that mattered most to Emily and to achieve them. As time went on, it became clear that Emily had reached the point where her independence had been restored, she was living the life she wanted to live, and could say “thank you and goodbye” to case management support.
On Sunday 21st April, Catherine and Emily limbered up on the starting line of the London Marathon to raise funds for the charities that have personal resonance for each of them.
Catherine, working as an outstanding catastrophic injuries case manager for ILS for many years, chose The National Brain Appeal. Emily has always said that if it hadn’t been for the swift action of the London Air Ambulance Service, she doesn’t believe she would have survived her injuries.
Both successfully completed the marathon and have exceeded their fundraising targets but for individuals who have a history of setting challenging goals and meeting them, this comes as no surprise.
We’re very proud of them both and invite anybody who would like to support them to donate to their pages which will remain active for a while longer.
Congratulations to you both, Emily and Catherine – we think you are amazing!
