ILS and Wiltshire Air Ambulance

Towards the end of 2016, the ILS Head Office team entered a quiz show held by our local radio station, Spire FM. The quiz, ‘War of the Works’ put us head-to-head with local charity Wiltshire Air Ambulance. Competing against the clock every morning, we each tackled ten general knowledge questions. ILS were lucky enough the win the competition (despite the WAA putting-up a very good fight!); we won pizza for a very happy/hungry head office team!

Our week spent competing against the Air Ambulance team meant that we were also given an insight into the vital part that the organisation plays in our local area. On learning that they rely almost entirely on public donations to keep the helicopter running, and understanding that their clients, like our own, have all been involved in serious incidents, we were delighted to be able to make a donation to support their work. Our donation was received warmly, and the charity invited us to come and visit some of their team at their Operations Centre in Devizes.

We happily accepted and, upon arriving with a large armful of pizzas for the crew, were lucky enough to receive a tour of the centre, including the Bell 429 itself (pictured below). We learnt that Wiltshire Air Ambulance can be anywhere in Wiltshire in 11 minutes, attends on average 2-3 missions a day, and needs to raise a massive £3.25m each year to continue saving lives. We’d like to thank Wiltshire Air Ambulance team for hosting our visit and wish them all the best for a successful year ahead.
