Gill qualified as a Speech and Language Therapist in 2003, gaining a second class honours degree from Leeds Metropolitan University. Since qualifying Gill has held a number of NHS posts across Yorkshire working with adults with communication difficulties.

Career to Date

Locum Speech and Language Therapist
Gill began working as a locum to provide more flexibility for her independent practice, and also to maintain a wide range of clinical experience. She was based at Mid Yorks NHS Trust initially, where she worked both in the community and acute setting, providing a service to the regional critical care/ICU and burns unit alongside the regional spinal injuries unit – managing complex communication and swallowing disorders. Gill also lead and reported on videofluoroscopy examinations. Most recently Gill is working in Northern Lincolnshire and Goole NHS specialising in acute stroke and rehabilitation medicine.

Independent Practice
Gill set up her independent practice ‘Rose Therapy Centre’ with her business partner Karen Scrivener-Fearn, treating clients presenting with speech, language and swallowing disorders outside of the NHS setting.

Gill is passionate about working with people with communication and swallowing difficulties and helping them to achieve their full potential to participate fully in all aspects of everyday life.

Clinical Lead Speech and Language Therapist, community rehabilitation team, Calderdale
Responsible for delivering Speech and Language Therapy Services to adults in their own homes across Calderdale with communication and swallowing difficulties as part of a multi-disciplinary team, working closely with Occupational Therapists, Physiotherapists and Dietitians to enable clients to achieve their rehabilitation goals. Gill also has a special interest in rehabilitation of swallowing – she was closely involved in the local ‘PEG’ clinic – looking after adults with feeding tubes in the Calderdale area, and regularly runs videofluoroscopy clinics with the radiographers.

Specialist Speech and Language Therapist, Leeds Teaching Hospital Trust
Gill worked in a variety of clinical settings, particularly specialised in the treatment of adults with acute neurological illnesses as inpatients, including stroke, Parkinson’s disease, Motor Neurone Disease and Multiple Sclerosis.

York Hospital Trust
Gill worked at York Hospital Trust working with a mixed caseload of adult with learning disabilities and adults with acquired neurological disorders as part of a multidisciplinary team.
