Tess Whitehead - BSc (Hons) Occupational Therapy

Tess is passionate about identifying practical solutions that will have a positive influence on maximising function, activity and inclusion. As an accredited Moving and Handling Trainer, Tess is responsible for carrying out complex risk assessments, devising handling management plans and delivering theory and client specific practical training. As an Occupational Therapist, Tess has extensive knowledge of specialist equipment and a good network of contacts and suppliers to offer clients a range of options to suit their specific needs, style requests and budget.

Career to Date

Moving and Handling Advisor – ILS Rehabilitation Solutions
Tess works in a variety of settings completing risk assessments, writing handling management plans and providing client-specific moving and handling training for both formal and informal care givers. Tess liaises closely with clients, Case Managers, corporate organisations and professionals regarding the complex issues of moving and handling. Her background as an Occupational Therapist means she is focused on maintaining and encouraging independence whenever possible and risk reduction.

Independent Occupational Therapist
Tess works in a consultancy capacity carrying out complex housing, equipment, moving & handling assessments and training in the private sector. Tess provides timely, detailed reports with clinical reasoning and client centered recommendations, she also produces comprehensive specifications to create accessible environments.

Occupational Therapist – Surrey County Council
Tess provide OT services to children aged 0-18, working closely with clients, parents/carers and other professionals to compile comprehensive assessments and plan appropriate services. She was the lead moving and handling advisor to the team, carrying out complex risk assessments, training, professional supervision and management of junior staff and students. Tess assisted in improvement of operational services and deputising in the absence of the Senior OT.
